🪄 BLACK MAGIC

In the early 1980s, South Carolina football was searching for an identity — a program adrift and hungry for respect. Part One of Black Magic: The Story of the 1984 Gamecocks sets the stage with the arrival of head coach Joe Morrison, whose quiet intensity would spark a cultural shift in Columbia. Through the eyes of players, journalists, and lifelong fans, we revisit a program standing at the edge of transformation. The ’84 season begins with a tense, hard-fought win over The Citadel — a shaky opening act that hinted at the unforgettable storm to come.

🔺 He’s The Man. Quarterback Luke Doty has been nominated for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, recognizing exceptional leadership on and off the field. The winner will receive a $10,000 contribution to their school’s athletic scholarship fund.

🔺 Fell Short. Gamecock volleyball fell to Texas A&M in four sets last night. Nia Hall led the Gamecocks offensively with 16 kills, while Victoria Harris had 22 digs. They’ll host Georgia on Sunday at 1 p.m.

🔺 Spooky Soccer At Stone. There’s a top-10 matchup at Stone Stadium tonight! The 10th-ranked women’s soccer team will host No. 7 Arkansas at 7 p.m. on ESPNU. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a spooky bandana. Plus, the first 250 students will receive free zingers!

🔺 New Addition. Gamecock softball has named Lexi Wagner as the director of player engagement for the 2026 season. She was a player and graduate assistant under Coach Chastain Woodard at Charlotte and brings valuable experience and knowledge of the player development system.
