🪄 BLACK MAGIC

In the early 1980s, South Carolina football was searching for an identity — a program adrift and hungry for respect. Part One of Black Magic: The Story of the 1984 Gamecocks sets the stage with the arrival of head coach Joe Morrison, whose quiet intensity would spark a cultural shift in Columbia. Through the eyes of players, journalists, and lifelong fans, we revisit a program standing at the edge of transformation. The ’84 season begins with a tense, hard-fought win over The Citadel — a shaky opening act that hinted at the unforgettable storm to come.

🔺 Debut To Remember. After making her Gamecock cross country debut, Salma Elbadra has been named the SEC Women’s Runner of the Week! She finished third overall at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Friday. She recorded just the second sub-16-minute 5K time in program history.

🔺 Representing Well. Gamecock women’s basketball is sending All-Americans Ta’Niya Latson, Chloe Kitts, and Joyce Edwards to SEC Tip-Off next week! The event will take place at Grand Bohemian Mountain Brook in Birmingham, Alabama on Oct. 14.

🔺 Talking Ball. The men’s basketball team will be represented by Mike Sharavjamts, Meechie Johnson, and Myles Stute at the SEC Tip-Off. They’ll talk hoops on Oct. 14 at the Grand Bohemian Mountain Brook as well.
