🎥 TAILGATE TALKS
STREAMING TOMORROW: Tailgate Talks: Darian Stewart - A leader in one of Coach Spurrier's first recruiting classes at Carolina, Darian Stewart set the tone on and off the field for the Gamecocks during his time in Columbia. From the birth of Sandstorm in 2009 versus Ole Miss to his 10-year NFL career that produced a Super Bowl ring, D-Stu had quite the football journey. On this episode of Tailgate Talks, DiMarco and Garcia sit down with one of their favorite defensive teammates to look back at it all.
📈 STOCK UP
🔺 Rocky Start, Stellar Finish. Former softball catcher and center fielder Dana (Fulmer) Garfield will be inducted into the University of South Carolina Association of Lettermen’s Athletics Hall of Fame this year! Her road to the Hall of Fame didn’t seem possible when the program was cut her first semester as the SEC did not sponsor softball then. She and her teammates expected to find another landing spot, but Title IX reinstated the program.
Garfield became one of the best hitters and run producers in Gamecock history. She holds the South Carolina records for career RBIs with 199 and games played with 268. She ranks second in career batting average and hits, third in career triples, fifth in career runs, and seventh in career doubles. The Gamecocks went to the NCAA Tournament in her final two seasons.
🔺 Baseball In The Fall. Gamecock baseball is back at Founders Park this week! They’ll host intrasquad scrimmages at 4 p.m. today, tomorrow, and Thursday. All scrimmages are free and open to the public.
🔺 Looking Ahead. South Carolina football heads to Oklahoma on October 19 to face the No. 18/16 Sooners. Game time will be noon or 12:45 p.m. on either ESPN or SEC Network. The game time and network assignment will be finalized after this Saturday’s games. For now, the Gamecocks prepare for a trip to No. 7 Alabama.
