The Story: Why We Play. A great year for Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks culminated in perhaps the biggest Palmetto Bowl in history. A nine-win regular season, a state championship, a premiere bowl bid. It was all on the line as South Carolina traveled to the upstate, looking to make it back-to-back wins in Memorial Stadium. 🔺 Palmetto Promotion. South Carolina offensive assistant coach Mike Shula is now South Carolina offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Mike Shula! He joined the Gamecocks staff in March as an offensive analyst before being promoted. He worked with the Carolina quarterbacks at the start of fall camp. Shula’s three-year contract runs through the 2027 season.

🔺 STATEment Win. The men’s basketball team defeated No. 25 Clemson 91-88 in thrilling overtime fashion! Collin Murray-Boyles scored 22 points and nine rebounds to lead the Gamecocks. Myles Stute went 5-of-7 from three-point range, finishing the game with 19 points. Nick Pringle was right behind with 18 points.

🔺 Comeback Kid. Gamecock running back Rocket Sanders has been named the Comeback Player of the Year! After his 2023 season at Arkansas was cut short by injuries, he transferred to South Carolina. He refused to let a knee problem and a severe shoulder surgery keep him off the field. In 2024, he has played in all 12 games. He’s compiled 881 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, plus 316 receiving yards with two touchdowns this season.

🔺 Final Five. Head football coach Shane Beamer has been named one of five finalists for the 2024 Dodd Trophy Presented by PNC Bank! The award goes to the nation’s top college football coach who embodies the award’s three pillars of scholarship, leadership, and integrity on and off the field. The winner will be announced during bowl week at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
