In the heart of Columbia, a new era of South Carolina softball has begun. With a first year head coach making her return to the program, and a combination of impact returners and fresh faces, the Gamecocks are hungry to prove they belong. After a roaring start, one thing is certain: it didn’t take long to shatter those last place preseason expectations. Gamecock softball has arrived.

🎙️ TAILGATE TALKS

Tailgate Talks: Troy Williamson — First team All-SEC, NCAA record-holder, top ten NFL draft pick. Troy Williamson covered a lot of ground in his three years in the Garnet & Black, and surely left his mark. The South Carolina native went on to play for six years in the NFL and is now back in the Midlands, raising kids and cheering on the Gamecocks.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 That’s A Wrap. The Gamecock softball season came to an end at the NCAA Columbia Super Regional as they won one but dropped two games to UCLA. They finish the first season under head coach Ashley Chastain Woodard with 44 wins, the most for a first-year head coach in program history.

🔺 New Leadership. South Carolina has named Jose Loiola as the second head beach volleyball coach! Loiola was recognized as the AVCA Collegiate Beach Assistant Coach of the Year at UCLA. He was inducted into the California Beach Volleyball Association’s Hall of Fame in 2014 and the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2017.

🔺 One’s Not Done. The men’s golf team came to a close as the Gamecocks tied for 19th at the NCAA Championship. Senior All-American Nathan Franks isn’t quite finished yet, as he advanced to the medal round as one of the top-nine individuals on a non-advancing team. He’ll play for the individual NCAA Champion crown today.
