Gamecock Talk. Legendary coach, Paul Mainieri, joins the Garnet & Black looking to add to his already decorated career in the SEC. Mainieri sits down with Gamecocks+ to describe his unexpected path to Columbia, why he believes this is a perfect fit, and his expectations for Carolina baseball.
📈 STOCK UP
🔺 Jumping For Joy. The seventh-ranked equestrian team started the Carol Gwin era strong! They defeated No. 9 Delaware 14-4 on Friday to start the season. They turned around to beat Minnesota Crookston 10-6 on Saturday. The Gamecocks will begin SEC action on October 11 when they host Auburn for the first home meet of the season.
🔺 Our State, Our Conference. The men’s soccer team picked up their first Sun Belt win of the season on Saturday! They defeated Coastal Carolina 2-1 on the road. The Gamecocks scored in under four minutes for the second straight game. Aleandro Velazquez-Lopez and Ethan Ballek scored the South Carolina goals. Filip Versterre was rock solid in the goal, tying his season-high six saves. The Gamecocks will host Kentucky on Friday at 7 p.m.
🔺 Streak Snapped. The 23rd-ranked women’s soccer team snapped their unbeaten streak at No. 2 Arkansas. The Razorbacks got the best of the Gamecocks, winning 2-0. Tina Tsaousis made four saves in the goal, while Taylor Fox added one. The defense held Arkansas to two goals, their second-lowest in a game this season. They’ll head to Vanderbilt on Friday for an 8 p.m. match.
🔺 Fall Ballin’. South Carolina baseball opens fall practice with four scrimmages this week. They’ll play at 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday this week! All scrimmages are free and open to the public, so come out and get a sneak peek at Coach Paul Mainieri’s team!
