🎥 THE STORY

The Story: Rising to the Role — Week one naturally comes with plenty of question marks. For a defense that lost all three starting linebackers, the questions write themselves. Who steps up? Where is the leadership? Can these young guys play? Introducing Fred “JayR” Johnson. Next question, please. The sophomore wasn’t the only one who shined. Vicari Swain reminded everyone it isn’t a “Beamer Bowl” without a little special teams magic, right?

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 Swain Train. No punt is safe when Vicari Swain is on the field. He returned two punts for touchdowns on Saturday in No. 10 South Carolina’s 38-10 win over South Carolina State! He has tied the school’s single-season record with three punt return touchdowns. Additionally, Jaron Willis returned a fumble for a touchdown. The Gamecocks prepare for the SEC opener this weekend when they host Vanderbilt.

🎙️ Postgame Press Conference

🔺 First Timers. The men’s soccer team defeated Charlotte 2-1 on Friday night! Yvan Malarte and Alejandro Velazquez-Lopez scored their first goals of the season to drive the Gamecocks to a win. Goalkeeper Filip Versterre made seven saves. They’ll close out their homestand tomorrow when they host Winthrop.

🔺 That’s A Wrap. The 10th-ranked women’s soccer team fell to No. 16 Georgetown 1-0 to wrap up non-conference play. The Gamecocks finished with nine shots, while goalkeeper Christina Tsaousis recorded two saves. South Carolina held non-conference opponents to just two goals through eight games.
