🔼 A Very Paris Flair. South Carolina’s clash with Notre Dame in Paris is a historic moment for women’s college basketball, and ESPN is gearing up for the overseas battle of the titans in a big way. The State sat down with ESPN’s VP of Production, Sara Gaiero, to break down how the network is prepping to cover this incredible moment in the sport.

At the heart of it? Gaiero wants viewers to embrace the atmosphere even from thousands of miles away: “When you tune in, it’s not just a regular basketball game in November, but instead it’ll have a very Paris flair to it.”

🔼 Not Just In Books. And speaking of Paris, our Gamecocks departed the United States last night for the City of Lights! For many of the players, it’s their first time heading overseas, while others, like Kamilla Cardoso, have extensive experience playing international ball. Coach Staley has big hopes for what her team gets out of the opportunity:

“It’s a game of course, and we’re going to be serious about playing the game,” Coach Staley said. “But we’re also going to be serious about just getting them to open their minds up to international travel and seeing landmarks that you can only read about in books, experiencing that. It’s cool, but it is a business trip. I want them to enjoy the trip, I want it to be educational for them, I want it to be fun for them. I want them to experience life. We’ll be there for a few days and we’ll be able to kind of enjoy it before we just bear down and get ready to actually prep.”

🔼 A Semifinalist. Jalon Kilgore’s strong play this season has turned the heads of the Maxwell Football Club, who announced Kilgore is a semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award! The freshman standout is second on the team with 64 tackles on the season; Kilgore is fifth in the SEC and 51st in the nation with 8.0 tackles per game. That’s good for third among all freshmen in the country!

🔼 It Can Be Done. The Gamecocks are set to honor Steve Spurrier and his years of success in Columbia on Saturday afternoon when South Carolina takes on Jacksonville State. Before they do, Brad Muller reflects on the narrative that a nationally successful program couldn’t be built in Columbia - and why Spurrier turned that on its head time and time again. Enjoy this trip down memory lane.

🤔 GAMECOCK TRIVIA

To The Ship. South Carolina clinched its first trip to the SEC Championship game in 2010 win a win over Florida. Marcus Lattimore dominated the Gators throughout the game that day; do you recall how many yards he rushed for?
