🔼 Spread It Out. South Carolina had 13 players see action in the squad’s season-opening win against USC Upstate on Monday night, and spreading it out is something Coach Paris knows will come in handy as the season gets going.
“You don’t always have your best stuff every day,” he said. “And that’s not due to a lack of effort, it’s not due to a lack of practice. Every now and then, you have a game where you don’t have your best stuff. And to be able to throw guys in, even for short spurts, to be able to carry the torch until somebody gets back and gets back on that second turn, maybe they start playing a little bit better.”
🔼 Ooh la la. Paris proved to be a special place for South Carolina women’s basketball, both on and off the court. While the Gamecocks’ 100-point outing spoke for itself on the court, Coach Staley talked after the game about what the trip to France did for creating strong bonds among the team and answered the burning question on everyone’s mind: Would she bring her team to play overseas again?
“Let’s go,” she said. “Let’s go, baby. Twenty-nine-point victory? Let’s go. I think our thing is international play.”
🔼 Gamecocks In The NFL. Let’s get to it as we check in on our former Gamecocks and say goodbye to Week 9 in the NFL! Hayden Hurst led the Panthers in receiving yards on Sunday afternoon, hauling in two catches, including a 48-yarder. Zacch Pickens tallied two tackles for the Bears, while rookie Darius Rush hit the field for the Steelers and made an impact: he logged three tackles and broke up a pass. Stephon Gilmore added four tackles and two passes defended for the Cowboys, while Keisean Nixon recorded five tackles for the Packers, and D.J. Wonnum posted four tackles for the Vikings.
🔼 Title Drive. Come on out to Stone Stadium for some playoff soccer! Gamecock women’s soccer will host its first-round battle against James Madison in the NCAA Tournament at 6:00pm ET on Friday, November 10. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students/youth - but the first 400 students get in free! We’ll see you there as the quest for a championship starts in Columbia!
