🔼 Down Go The Wildcats. South Carolina men’s basketball knocked off No. 6 Kentucky in dominant fashion at Colonial Life Arena last night. Ta’Lon Cooper led the way for the Gamecocks with 20 points while Meechie Johnson and Jacobi Wright each added 14 as South Carolina scored a 79-62 win and climbed to 16-3.

Here are some of our favorite tweets from around the college basketball world and beyond after the Gamecocks pulled off the massive upset:

🔼 Fresh Impact. MiLaysia Fulwiley earned SEC co-Freshman of the Week honors after leading the Gamecocks in scoring when South Carolina beat Texas A&M by 35 points last week. Fulwiley recorded her first 20-point game in her career in the Garnet & Black, tallying 21 points in 20 minutes of play. She hit .667 of her shots from the field and went 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.

And speaking of Gamecock women’s basketball, South Carolina announced that the squad’s January 28 game against Vanderbilt is officially a sellout. It’s the program’s 11th sellout all-time in Colonial Life Arena and third season with at least two sellout crowds.

🔼 Top 10. Te-Hina Paopao is on the list for the 2024 Nancy Lieberman Award Top 10! The award recognizes the best point guard in women’s D1 college basketball throughout the season and evaluates floor leadership, playmaking, and ball-handling skills. Paopao leads the nation in three-point shooting percentage at .558.

🔼 On Repeat. JaMeesia Ford is, once again, the SEC Freshman of the Week, earning the honor in back-to-back weeks! Ford claimed a world lead over the weekend in the 400 meter with a time of 51.60. She’ll have another chance to dominate this weekend at the Razorback Invitational.

🔼 Red, White, and Blue. The U.S. Women’s National Team Training Camp roster is here, and former Gamecocks are repping the stars and stripes! Aliyah Boston, Allisha Gray, and A’ja Wilson will all hit the court for Team USA from February 2-4 in Brooklyn, NY.

🔼 Change The Game. New Gamecocks wide receivers coach James Coley has one overarching theme he’s ready to instill in the locker room for the South Carolina receivers:

“I pride myself in the phrase, ‘change the game.’ That can be from an 80-yard touchdown bomb to a slant where you make a guy miss that had a perfect angle on you and you score. It could be from a key block that springs a running back 80 yards… Those things change the game, right?” Coley said.

🤔 GAMECOCK TRIVIA
