Cock-A-Doodle Brew 1/31: Time to rank 'em

Today: Another Top 10 upset, get to know Joe, and more.

a:

Good morning. Another week, another Top-10 upset for Coach Paris’ crew. The Gamecocks went to Tennessee and took down the No. 5-ranked Vols, 63-59, behind a late three-pointer from Ta’Lon Cooper.

After the game, there was a glaring theme from the national media: It’s time to rank the Gamecocks.

Jeff Goodman said it. Jeff Borzello said it. Dan Wolken said it. Dick Vitale said it. Even Under Armour said it.

As for Coach Paris? Here’s what Pat Forde, Myron Medcalf, and Jeff Goodman had to say about our guy in charge.

What’s the limit for Gamecock men’s tennis this season? For Connor Thomson and the rest of the squad, there’s no cap on what they’re ready to achieve.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Best Of The Week. Kamilla Cardoso continues to tear it up during her senior season on the court. The center earned SEC co-Player of the Week honors and was named one of five Ann Meyers-Drysdale National Players of the Week. Cardoso scored 23 points against Vanderbilt last week, her highest points total in an SEC game during her career.

🔼 Feel At Home. South Carolina’s centerfielder Riley Blampied pivoted from third base to the outfield during her junior season, and she sat down with GamecocksOnline to talk about the transition and what she’s expecting when the team’s new season gets underway.

“It was a big adjustment. I’ve met the wall a couple of times. I played outfield maybe once or twice when I was twelve years old,” she said. “I saw it as a challenge, and I wanted to achieve there. You have to have a lot more range in the outfield and move a lot more. I was surprised, but I was ready for it. I picture myself as being diverse and think I can play anywhere. I feel at home there this year. I feel prepared.”

And speaking of Gamecock softball, the NFCA preseason poll is out, and your squad is in.

🔼 Get To Know Joe. Coach Beamer announced the addition of longtime NFL special teams coach Joe DeCamillis to the South Carolina coaching staff. DeCamillis will join the Gamecocks as an associate head coach / special teams coordinator after Pete Lembo took a head coaching role at the University of Buffalo. DeCamillis comes most recently from the University of Texas where he worked as a special assistant to the head coach while consulting on a special teams unit that finished in the Top 20 last season in efficiency.

🔼 Gridiron Ready. And while we’re talking about Gamecock football, Coach Beamer shared his early impressions on what you can expect from South Carolina on the gridiron when the 2024 season kicks off.
