Changing Expectations: Chapter 5: Ignore the Noise - Not many teams go into Rocky Top and come out with a win, but that's exactly what Lamont Paris and his squad did to keep the momentum going. Whether it's a hostile SEC environment, some much-deserved national recognition, or just the day-to-day life of a college student, there are plenty of distractions, but with March creeping closer, it's time to ignore the noise.
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 (West) Coasting To Victory. The West Coast has been good to Gamecock women’s golf in 2024! South Carolina claimed the title at the San Diego State Classic this week, giving the Gamecocks back-to-back wins this season. The sixth-ranked Gamecocks shot +8 in the final round to defeat No. 25 Virginia by one stroke.
🔼 Rain Rain Go Away. With rain in the forecast, Gamecock softball’s schedule today at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge has changed. South Carolina will now take the field this morning at 10:30am ET against Utah and this evening at 6:00pm ET against Wichita State.
🔼 SEC Legend. Former Gamecock women’s soccer superstar Blakely Mattern is part of the 2024 SEC Women’s Legends Class! Mattern became the first All-American in program history in 2007 en route to earning 2007 SEC Defensive Player of the Year and 2009 SEC Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. She helped the Gamecocks secure the program’s first SEC title in 2009 and made three NCAA Tournament appearances, including the Gamecocks’ first-ever Sweet 16 berth.
🔼 Stop Right There. Chris Veach is on the watch list for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award. The award is given every season to the best relief pitcher in NCAA D1 baseball, and Veach is looking to capitalize on a fantastic 2023. Last season, Veach went 2-1 with a 3.46 ERA and added six saves while striking out 32 batters in 26 innings. The Gamecocks will be on the diamond tomorrow (!!!) at 4:00pm ET at Founders Park.
