It's game week for South Carolina softball! Head Coach Bev Smith is ready for her 14th season at the helm with a reloaded roster and her sights set on making a run in the NCAA Tournament.

Opening Day is this Friday, February 9, and while the countdown is on, we're sitting down with Coach Smith to get you ready for the first pitch on this all-new episode of Gamecock Talk.

🔼 Keep On Rolling. No. 15 South Carolina men’s basketball took care of business against Ole Miss, 68-65, yesterday to get to 20-3 on the season. Collin Murray-Boyles strung together another strong performance, leading the Gamecocks with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Ta’Lon Cooper and Myles Stute both cracked double figures with 12 points. 🔼 All Aboard. Next stop: The SEC Tournament! South Carolina is hosting a women’s basketball FAM bus trip to the SEC Tournament in Greenville. Tickets include round-trip transportation and admission to the game, and are available from March 8-10. Tickets are $75 for the quarterfinals and semifinals and $80 for Sunday’s championship. 🔼 Local Heroes. MiLaysia Fulwiley and Ashlyn Watkins both grew up within 15 miles of Colonial Life Arena — and have traveled in the same basketball circles since elementary school. Now these two homegrown talents are the future of South Carolina women’s basketball.

Keeping local stars close to home is a foundation of Coach Staley’s strategy: “We worked really hard recruiting both of them,” she said. “All of our local talent, we want them to stay here so we forge relationships with them. We envision the two of them playing together, playing a lot of minutes together, playing their entire careers here.”

🔼 Freshman Of The Week. Speaking of MiLaysia Fulwiley’s success, the rookie sensation earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors from the conference for the second time in three weeks. Fulwiley led the Gamecocks in scoring with 15 points against Auburn last week and, on the season, she’s third in scoring on the team with 11.7 points per game.

🔼 News From The Diamond. We’re nine days away from the opening pitch on a brand-new season of Gamecock baseball so let’s catch up on some news. The Gamecocks checked in at No. 21 in the USA Today Preseason Poll, while Cole Messina and Ethan Petry continue to stack up preseason All-America honors.
