Gamecock men’s hoops is officially making its way back to the Big Dance for the first time since 2017. Gamecocks+ joined the team’s live watch party last night to be there with the squad for every second of the excitement during the bracket unveiling!

Go behind the scenes with Derek Scott and Bill Gunter as we break down South Carolina’s road back to the Final Four, starting with Thursday afternoon’s match-up against 11th-seeded Oregon.

🔼 Selection Sunday. Gamecock women’s basketball is the No. 1 overall seed, and will take on either 16th-seeded Sacred Heart of Presbyterian in the tournament’s opening round! It’s the third straight year that Coach Staley’s crew enters the Big Dance as the No. 1 overall seed.

Gamecock men’s hoops is a sixth-seed heading into the NCAA Tournament! The squad drew 11th-seeded Oregon in Pittsburgh on Thursday. The game will tip at 4:00pm ET on TNT.

When October’s practices got underway, Meechie Johnson had a feeling the Gamecocks would end up here, saying: “I want to get to a Sweet 16. That’s what I want to do. I’ve been to the NCAA Tournament twice at my old school and it’s been a minute, coming off last year’s season. We have a chance, that’s what I feel.”

🔼 The Great Outdoors. The outdoor season is officially underway for South Carolina Track & Field and the last day of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational was good to our Gamecocks. The men’s and women’s teams won a combined 12 events and both finished as runners up in the overall event standings.

🔼 Revenge Tour. Former Gamecock Jabari Ellis is a man on a mission. The defensive lineman attended South Carolina’s Pro Day last week as he works to earn his way back into the NFL. Ellis, an undrafted free agent, signed briefly with the Giants before landing in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes. When Ellis reached out to his former program about participating in Pro Day, he said he had no doubt Coach Beamer would welcome him onto the gridiron with open arms.

“It was no doubt in my mind because I know him. I know what type of guy he is, what type of coach he is,” Ellis said. “I’m appreciative of course, but it was no doubt in my mind. It’s really a family atmosphere.”

As for his quest to return to the NFL, Ellis said: “This time around it was different. I got a lot more experience, just a lot more miles up under my belt. The first go around it was cool, it was good, I enjoyed it. But this go around, it’s been the revenge tour for me.”

🔼 Sunday W. Gamecock baseball picked up the Sunday afternoon win on the road in Oxford, knocking off Ole Miss, 6-2. Matthew Becker dealt in relief from the mound, allowing just one hit in 3.1 innings. The Gamecocks got the scoring started with a two-run shot from Tyler Causey in the second inning, and never let off the gas from there. Parker Noland added an RBI hit in the same inning, then Talmadge LeCroy blasted a two-run double in the fifth to give South Carolina a 5-0 lead. LeCroy would score later that inning on an error as the Gamecocks got in the win column in conference play.

🔼 A Big Win. No. 19 South Carolina women’s tennis took down No. 13 Auburn, 5-2, in Columbia yesterday afternoon. South Carolina won five of its six singles matches to grab the upset victory.
