Changing Expectations: Chapter 7: South Carolina men’s basketball set out on a key mission this season: change expectations. After finishing with the most regular season wins in program history and returning to March Madness for the first time in seven years, we’re already counting down the days until next season tips off. Expectations have changed in Columbia.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Next Stop: Albany. Coach Staley and the Gamecocks are heading back to the Sweet 16! South Carolina dominated eighth-seeded UNC, 88-41, yesterday afternoon to advance. MiLaysia Fulwiley paved the way for Gamecock women’s hoops with 20 points and nine rebounds while Kamilla Cardoso (12), Chloe Kitts (12), Tessa Johnson (11), and Ashlyn Watkins (11) all finished in double digits. Nine different Gamecocks found the scoresheet in the win.

After the game, UNC coach Courtney Banghart had some kind words for our incredible fanbase. We’ll see y’all in Albany, FAMS!

🔼 Dove Right In. The NCAA Championships are in the books for South Carolina women’s swimming, and two Gamecocks are coming back to Columbia with All-American honorable mentions. Sophomore Amy Riordan finished 15th overall in the 200 back, while junior Greta Pelzek finished 10th overall in the 200 fly. The duo became the first Gamecock women’s swimmers to earn All-American honors since 2020.

🔼 Get Set, Go. The Weems Baskin Invitational was good to the Gamecocks over the weekend as South Carolina Track & Field finished Saturday’s slate with 12 wins and two new program records. Cynteria James set a program record in the women’s 100-meter sprint, clocking in at 11.01, while Anthony
Greenhow’s 10.01 time in the 100m prelims set a Gamecock record and is the fastest time not just in the NCAA, but in the world. Full results here.

🔼 Grab The Brooms. South Carolina wrapped up a dominant first SEC home weekend series with a sweep against No. 3 Vanderbilt. The Gamecocks won 8-4, then 8-3 during Saturday’s doubleheader behind sharp pitching and hot bats, and then went ahead and followed that up with a 10-2 win on Sunday to close out the sweep.

Freshman Tyler Pitzer delivered 6.1 scoreless innings on the mound, giving up three hits and one walk while striking out nine in his first career start on Sunday. Ethan Petry continued his on-base streak, reaching base in 34 straight games dating back to last season.

Here’s a quick round-up of our favorite highlights from the huge weekend sweep:
