Ready to enjoy the 2023-24 South Carolina men’s basketball season from start to finish? You’ll love seeing just how far the program came this season, starting with a locker room full of new faces. In today’s Brew, we’re diving back into the preseason and the non-conference slate as we look back on where Coach Paris and this team started.

Chapter 1: A Slept-On State: It’s Year 2 for Lamont Paris in Columbia, and this team is ready to make some noise. It’s a locker room full of new faces, but also one with experience and like-minded teammates who have one goal in mind: March. It’s time to change expectations.

Chapter 2: Snowball Effect: New names, a second-year head coach, and last-place expectations from the national media. None of it stopped the Gamecocks from getting off to their best start in years and surpassing last year's win total before the new year. Lamont Paris' team is stacking wins, hoping for a snowball effect as we roll into conference play.

🔼 Fresh Impact. The SEC announced its weekly baseball awards, and none other than our own Tyler Pitzer earned SEC Freshman of the Week! Pitzer made his first career start in the Garnet & Black, striking out nine and allowing three hits in a 10-2 win over Vanderbilt. Pitzer is now 4-0 on the season with a 0.48 ERA.

🔼 Ranked & Ready. And speaking of Gamecock baseball, the squad checked in at No. 18 in this week’s D1 Baseball rankings a day after finishing off a sweep of the then-third-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores.

🔼 Not Afraid Of The Moment. Freshman MiLaysia Fulwiley continues to turn towards the big moment, and she’s shining brightest when the spotlight is the biggest. Our rookie superstar led South Carolina in scoring as Gamecock women’s basketball cruised into the Sweet 16. After the game, Fulwiley and Coach Staley talked about how the freshman has been able to embrace a big stage this season.
