Cock-A-Doodle Brew 3/28: A little bit of both

Today: Coming home, hype train, and more.

a:

Good morning. Don’t look now, but this Gamecock program just hit No. 2 in the national rankings! 👀

What else is mixed into today’s Brew? ⤵️

🌴 Coming home
🏈 A little bit of both
🤙 And much, much more

🎥 GAMECOCKS+

In Today’s Brew, we’re taking you through the latter half of Gamecock men’s basketball’s record-setting season. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Chapter 5: Ignore The Noise: Not many teams go into Rocky Top and come out with a win, but that's exactly what Lamont Paris and his squad did to keep their momentum going. Whether it's a hostile SEC environment, some much-deserved national recognition, or just the day-to-day life of a college student, there are plenty of distractions, but with March creeping closer it's time to ignore the noise.

Chapter 6: A Captain’s Mentality: As we near March and a possible tournament bid, everyone knows it takes every player and coach on the team to make a deep run-- but what if it takes even more than that? A name many Gamecock fans might be familiar with is back with the team, and might be even more valuable now than in the 90's when he was known as "The Captain." In our latest chapter of Changing Expectations, the team hits their first real speed bump, but between the veteran players, seasoned coaches, and the man affectionately called "The Godfather of South Carolina Basketball," they're back on track.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Coming Home. Jadeveon Clowney is coming home! The former Gamecock superstar agreed to terms with the Carolina Panthers yesterday. Gamecock fans, you’re going to love the way the Panthers summed this one up.

And if you’re feeling nostalgic about Clowney’s time in the Garnet & Black, watch The Hit: Retold, our in-depth exclusive look back at the moment that no one will ever forget.

🔼 On The Gridiron. Missing football? Tune in this weekend as two former Gamecocks take the field with the UFL. Safety D.J. Swearinger will suit up with the D.C. Defenders on Sunday at 12:00pm ET on ESPN, while defensive lineman Kobe Smith and the St. Louis Battlehawks will take on Michigan Panthers on Saturday at 4:00pm ET on FOX.

🔼 Hype Train. Athlon Sports’ Steven Lassan expects LaNorris Sellers to turn heads this season. Lassan released his list of the “top QBs on the rise for 2024” this week, and on Sellers, he wrote:

"At 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, Sellers brings an impressive set of physical tools to the position. The South Carolina native's development behind the scenes over the last year and limited on-field performance in '23 also did nothing to slow down the hype train for '24. With South Carolina's work in the portal to improve at running back, receiver, and the offensive line, Sellers should quickly emerge as one of the SEC's breakout quarterbacks for '24."

🔼 A Little Bit Of Both. How does Coach Beamer take stock of the current state of Gamecock football? Coach sat down with Josh Pate to talk about how he and his coaching staff debrief every moment from the prior season and use those lessons to decide how the team will get better every day. Watch his full interview here.
