🔼 Moving On. Gamecock men’s tennis took down Tennessee, 4-2, in the Sweet 16 on Saturday afternoon to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals! Here’s how it went down:

  • Raphael Lambling and Casey Hoole grabbed an early doubles win, then the nation’s top-ranked duo Connor Thomson and Toby Samuel struck again, defeating Tennessee’s fourth-ranked pair to secure the doubles point on the afternoon and put the Gamecocks on the board first.

  • James Story won his singles match in straight sets.

  • Lambling knocked off his opponent after dropping the first set; Lambling came back to win the last two sets 6-3, 6-0.

  • Thomson got right back to work and secured a singles win in three sets with the third and final set going to a tiebreaker. Thomson’s come-from-behind win after dropping the first set delivered the overall match win for South Carolina.

The Gamecocks are now off to Orlando for the Quarterfinals, where they’ll square off with top-seeded Texas this Thursday.

🔼 A Cinderella Story. What a magical run for Gamecock softball! The squad entered the SEC Tournament as the 10th seed and bulldozed its way to Saturday’s championship game, becoming the lowest seed in the history of the tournament to make the finals. While the run ended in the championship, the Gamecocks’ historic push placed three players on the All-SEC Tournament Team: Donnie Gobourne, Jordan Fabian, and Marissa Gonzalez.

All three had SportsCenter Top-10 worthy moments, including this catch from Gonzalez, this incredible two-run homer from Fabian, and this game-sealing pop-out from Gobourne.

🔼 Field Of 64. And speaking of Gamecock softball, they’re not done yet! South Carolina earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. South Carolina will travel to Tallahassee to take on UCF in the first round on Friday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Florida State and Marist are the other two teams who are in the Gamecocks’ region.

And we love where our Gamecocks were when their NCAA Tournament fate was revealed!

🔼 Run Away With It. That’s how you finish a tournament! The Gamecocks dominated Saturday’s final day of the SEC Outdoor Championships, earning two gold medals in the men’s and women’s 1500-meter.

Anass Essayi delivered South Carolina’s first-ever men’s 1500m gold medal with a 3:41.52, while Silan Ayyildiz did the same thing for the women, earning the first-ever top finish in the 1500m in program history with a 4:17.67. As if that wasn’t enough history, South Carolina became just the second team in the last 21 years to sweep the 1500m.

Next up? The NCAA Regionals! South Carolina will travel to Jacksonville on May 24 to kick off the NCAA East Regional.
