The Follow: Don’t Count ‘Em Out (S.2 Ep.5): As the 2024 regular season comes to an end, we’re reminded that baseball is a long season full of ups and downs for every team. This Gamecock team is no different, but there’s something that sets South Carolina apart: with the talent on this roster and what they’ve already shown they can do, don’t count ‘em out.

Whether they’re down three in the bottom of the ninth to a Top-5 team or coming off a tough weekend, more often than not, this team finds a way to bounce back. Ty Good and Blake Jackson take us back through a wild weekend in Founders Park against Kentucky, and look ahead to what this team plans to accomplish as the postseason nears.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Only Thing To Do. Xavier Legette is fitting right in with the Carolina Panthers, and head coach Dave Canales is loving what he’s seeing from his team’s first-round draft pick already:

“His movement skills. The way that he controls his body. The way that he gets in and out of breaks, it’s pretty special,” said Canales. “To see him out there moving around like he does, it’s impressive.”

As for Legette and his plans for his signing bonus, he has only one vision in mind: “I just want to remodel my mom and my dad’s house,” he said. “That’s the only thing that I want to do.”

🔼 Tourney Time. The NCAA Regionals get underway today for South Carolina softball at the Durham Regional. The Gamecocks will battle Utah this afternoon at 12:00pm ET on ESPNU. Preview here.

🔼 35 In A Row. South Carolina student-athletes posted the 35th straight semester with a departmental GPA above 3.0, logging a 3.37 GPA for the Spring 2024 semester. The highest team GPA went to beach volleyball with a 3.71, while women’s golf (3.67) and women’s swimming (3.64) rounded out the top three.

🔼 To DC. Former Gamecock wide receiver Damiere Byrd is Washington-bound! The nine-year NFL vet agreed to terms with the Washington Commanders this week. During his career, Byrd has hauled in 130 passes for seven scores.

🔼 All Eyes On Her. JaMeesia Ford is on the Bowerman Award Watch List for the sixth consecutive time. The Bowerman Award, named after Oregon’s former head coach Bill Bowerman, is given every year to the nation’s most outstanding male and female college track & field athletes. Ford would become the first Gamecock in South Carolina history to win the honor.
