Yesterday, we took a deep dive into the beginning of the season for South Carolina baseball with The Follow: Season 2, Episode 1.

Today, we’re looking back at why Opening Day 2024 meant a little more to two Gamecocks in particular. Both Tyler Causey and Roman Kimball missed the 2023 season due to injuries, and their futures on the diamond were unclear.

Hear Tyler and Roman's stories as they take us back to where their love for the game started, what the last couple of years have been like, and how much it meant to them to get back on the field this year.

🔼 Tourney Time. The SEC Tournament starts today for South Carolina softball. The 11th-seeded Gamecocks will battle sixth-seeded Mississippi State tonight with the first pitch slated for 35 minutes after the end of Auburn vs. Georgia. That’s expected to be around 8:00pm ET.

You can catch the game on the SEC Network. The last time these two teams met on the field, South Carolina came away with a 3-1 win in Columbia on April 7.

🔼 100 Club. In more Gamecock softball news, Aniyah Black is having one heck of a week! Black earned a spot on the SEC Community Service Team for her work in the Columbia community just a few days after joining the 100 Club for career hits.

🔼 Midweek W. That’s another victory for South Carolina baseball! The Gamecocks beat Winthrop, 15-3, in seven innings to wrap up the midweek schedule for the season.

After the first inning, South Carolina led 3-1 courtesy of a two-run single from Kennedy Jones, then Gavin Casas belted one deep in the second for the 4-1 lead. Jones continued his offensive onslaught with a two-run homer in the third frame. Later in the game, Austin Brinling brought it for the Gamecocks, driving in a pair in the fifth to get the score to 10-2 Gamecocks.

The seventh was good to the Gamecock who belted not one, not two, but three homers off the bats of Brinling, Ethan Petry, and Cole Messina!

🤔 GAMECOCK TRIVIA

Pure Perfection. Jori Heard’s March 2 perfect game was the 11th in Gamecock softball history and the first since 2007. Of South Carolina’s 11 perfect games, six came between 1995 and 1997 and were thrown by the same two pitchers. Can you name them?
