🔼 Gamecocks In The WNBA. Week 3 of the WNBA is in the books so let’s take a look at how our Gamecocks are faring in the pros. Laeticia Amihere’s making it count when she’s on the court, averaging 4.3 points per game in just under six minutes of playing time, while Allisha Gray averages 17 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game this season. Gray is the Atlanta Dream’s leading scorer and second-leading rebounder so far this year.
Tyasha Harris is averaging 4.2 points per game in just over 11 minutes of play for the Connecticut Sun, while Aliyah Boston continues to dominate for the Indiana Fever with 13.6 points per game, 7.1 rebounds per game, and just over two assists per game. Victaria Saxton has seen playing time in two games for the Fever this season.
A’ja Wilson’s killing it in Sin City with an eye-popping stat line: 20.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game across the first nine games of the year. Wilson’s posted at least 20 points and ten boards in three of her last four games. Zia Cooke has played in eight games for the LA Sparks, averaging 13 minutes per contest to go along with 4.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. And finally, Tiffany Mitchell is having a standout season for the Minnesota Lynx so far: 12.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists each time she hits the court.
🔼 Rookies Ready. We’re all about the true freshmen in today’s Brew!
Incoming freshman Bo Carpenter, who will take the green for the men’s golf team, finished fourth at the AJGA Junior Championship in Tallahassee this weekend. Carpenter shot two under par across three rounds.
Meanwhile, incoming softball freshmen Reganne Bennett and Sage Mardjetko both earned Gatorade Player of the Year honors in their states! Bennett, who is from Michigan, batted .598 with 18 homers and 20 doubles as her team competed in the Division 1, District 19 tournament final. Mardjetko, who won Gatorade Player of the Year in 2022 as well, piloted her high school to consecutive Illinois High School Associaton Class 3A state titles. She threw a 24-strikeout no-hitter in 12 innings in Saturday’s state championship game (yes, you read that right!).
