🔼 By The Numbers. The college baseball world is still reacting to South Carolina’s bombshell hire of Paul Mainieri. D1 Baseball breaks down the hire and why Mainieri will now be rewriting his “final chapter.” Meanwhile, Gamecocks from Ethan Petry to Roman Kimball to Kennedy Jones to Blake Jackson all took to social media to welcome home South Carolina baseball’s new coach.

The Gamecocks will host an introductory press conference with Mainieri this afternoon at 4:00pm ET. Until then, get to know our new coach a little bit better with these eye-popping stats.

🔼 Player of the Year. Toby Samuel is your ITA Carolina Region Senior Player of the Year! The men’s tennis star led the Gamecocks with a 21-6 record in singles play during the spring season, including 14 wins over ranked opponents.

🔼 Two Time. Cole Messina is an All-American for the second season in a row! Both Perfect Game and the NCBWA announced Messina was named a Second Team All-American this week. Messina led South Carolina with a .326 batting average this season, posting 64 runs scored, 71 RBI, 21 homers, 19 doubles, 50 walks, and eight stolen bases.

🔼 Finding Stardom. We can’t get enough of former Gamecock football player Matrick Belton’s journey from the gridiron to the WWE ring. Now known as Trick Williams and a WWE NXT Champion, the former wide receiver talked with GamecockCentral about how he trusted the process on his journey to becoming a superstar.

🔼 Coming Together. Jadeveon Clowney is ready to get the South Carolina band back together! The superstar, who signed with the Carolina Panthers this offseason, joked this week about recruiting other former Gamecocks to join him in the NFL.

Meanwhile, Panthers.com explores how the veteran Clowney is providing stability to a defense that’s recovering from injuries.

"We are coming from all over," Clowney said. "Different team and individuals, but I think when you put us together, we got the guys that can stop the run and rush the passer and we got some matchups guys who can match up on the inside with guards and everything...It's good to know the guys besides you and who you're rushing with, make sure y'all are on the same page.”

🤔 GAMECOCK TRIVIA

Making History. When Clowney hung up the Garnet & Black for the last time, he was just the third player in South Carolina program history to become a two-time first-team All-American. Can you name the two players who did it before him?
