🔼 Analytics vs. Instinct. New Gamecock baseball head coach Paul Mainieri has a clear approach when it comes to relying on analytics while trusting his instincts:
“The analytics can be very valuable,” Mainieri said. “Monte took me for a tour of the hitting facility and showed me all the computers and all this stuff that we can do. Why would you not take advantage of it?”
At the same time, he added: “I’m going to trust these two little white things in the front of my face. I’m going to see what I see. And I’m going to believe what I see. I’ve been a pretty good judge of talent. That allowed me to last for 39 years without somebody kicking me to the curb.”
🔼 The Biggest Thing. Ashley Chastain has big plans for South Carolina softball. Hear from the former Gamecock student-athlete on what “the biggest thing right now” is for her program.
🔼 Hot Streak. Don’t look now but the legend of A’ja Wilson just keeps growing. Wilson now has posted 17 games in a row with at least 20 points.
🔼 Writing New History. South Carolina Track and Field head coach Tim Hall and freshman phenom JaMeesia Ford earned USTFCCCA Southeast Region Women’s Coach and Women’s Track Athlete of the Year!
Hall had a phenomenal first season at the helm of Gamecock Track & Field, piloting the women’s team to its best finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championship since 2019 as the Gamecocks came home with 10 First-Team All-America honors. Ford earned three of those accolades and finished as the runner-up in the 200m.
