🔼 New Faces. South Carolina sophomore Jalon Kilgore is looking forward to fall camp getting underway for Gamecock football. In the meantime, Kilgore talked about which newcomers have already stood out in the Garnet & Black:

“On offense, I would say Mazeo (Bennett). Mazeo has definitely been looking good on offense. He’s given us a good look in practice and real game reps. He likes to get at it. He likes to compete and that’s what I like about him. Defensively, everybody already knows about Dylan (Stewart). So somebody else, I would say safety David Bucey,” said Kilgore. “He’s been looking real good. That boy, he’s a country-Georgia boy for real. He’s coming down to smack something. He’s not playing. In the weight room, he reminds me of me. He never misses a rep, never considered the weak link — he’s trying to get somebody’s spot. That’s what I like about him.”

🔼 Diving For Gold. South Carolina diver Sophie Verzyl will compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials in diving today. Verzyl will take the plunge on the 3-meter springboard; the prelims get underway at 10:00 am with the semifinals later in the day at 5:00pm. The finals will take place on Saturday at 7:03pm.

🔼 A Peek Inside. South Carolina Athletics Director Ray Tanner talked about his approach to the Gamecock baseball head coaching search that led to the blockbuster hire of Paul Mainieri. Read more about how Tanner came to land on Mainieri as his guy.

🔼 Premier League. New South Carolina softball coach Ashley Chastain is focused on making the Gamecocks a force to be reckoned with in the SEC:

“We’re going to recruit coast to coast and bring the best players and the best talent that we can to this program to win the SEC because that’s what we’re here to do, is to win the league,” Chastain said. “It is the premier league for softball in the country and we want to be really successful in the conference.”
