Big Impact. Nick Emmanwori had a stellar rookie season for the Garnet & Black. He was named a Freshman All-American by ESPN, PFF, and On3, and earned Freshman All-SEC honors from the conference’s coaches. Emmanwori finished the year as a semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award and shared the Joe Morrison Defensive Team MVP honor with Zacch Pickens. He led the Gamecocks with 85 total tackles and his 62 solo stops were second in the SEC and best among all freshmen in college football.

Emmanwori joined this week’s episode of Gamecock Talk to share what his freshman season was like in Columbia — and how he’s planning to follow it up in Year Two.

🔼 Iconic All-Stars. Speaking of Gamecock legends facing off, those same two icons are heading to the WNBA All-Star game! A’ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston were both named WNBA All-Star starters with A’ja earning the most votes for the second year in a row. Aliyah will become just the eighth rookie in league history to start an All-Star game and is the first to do so since 2014.

The WNBA All-Star game is slated for July 15 in Las Vegas.

🔼 Welcome Home. Welcome to Columbia, Tim Hall! The Gamecocks introduced Hall as the new Track & Field and Cross Country coach late last week after legendary coach Curtis Frye announced his retirement. Hall comes from Kentucky where he was named the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year for five straight seasons.

Hall’s resume features coaching five Olympians, including a gold medalist, a World Champion and silver medalist, one world record holder, two American record holders, 11 NCAA Champions, 14 SEC Champions, and more than 125 All-Americans. Watch Coach Hall’s message to Gamecock Nation.

🔼 Attack The Plate. What approach will new Gamecock pitching coach Matt Williams bring to the diamond?

“I think the biggest thing is attacking the plate. Especially in this league, if your stuff doesn’t play over the plate then it’s going to be tough for you here. If your stuff’s not playing then we either got to look at making some changes, some adjustments,” Williams said of his strategy.

🔼 Draft Round-Up. We’re still over the moon for GG Jackson after he became the first Gamecock drafted in the NBA Draft since 2017. Check out this round-up of the best content from draft night and beyond:

🔼 50 Years. Gamecock volleyball is set to celebrate its 50th season as a varsity sport when the team returns to the court this fall. Early season home schedule highlights include a battle against Towson, who finished last season with a 29-2 record and upset No. 7 Pittsburgh, and an August rivalry match against Clemson.
