🔼 Day Two. It was another great day in Eugene for our Gamecocks! To get started, South Carolina brought home the second-fastest time in the second heat of the women’s 4×100 relay and will advance to the national title competition on Saturday. Then, Jayla Jamison and JaMeesia Ford both advanced to the finals in the 200m with Jamison running the second-fastest 200m time in program history, while Ford won her heat. And finally, the incredible women’s 4×400m relay team finished first in the first heat to advance to Saturday’s national championship race.
🔼 All-Americans. A slew of Gamecocks earned All-American status this week! Let’s break it down:
Louise Rydqvist earned Golfweek Second Team All-American honors, while Hannah Darling was named a Golfweek Third Team All-American. This marks the fourth All-American accolade for Rydqvist and the sixth for Darling.
Toby Samuel was named an ITA Singles All-American for Gamecock men’s tennis, the second season in a row that he earned the honor.
Women’s tennis’ Ayana Akli also earned ITA Singles All-American honors for the third time in her Garnet & Black career.
🔼 Draft Class. The 2023 MLB Draft Class is making a big impact at the next level. MLB.com breaks down the top performers from each team, and the list features none other than our own Cade Austin.
🔼 In The Ring. Former Gamecock wide receiver Matrick Belton, now known as Trick Williams, is a champion in the WWE. He sat down with Paul Finebaum to talk about his career trajectory from the field to the ring, and how he’s become a WWE superstar.
🔼 Playing Free. Jaycee Horn is back on the gridiron, and Carolina’s defensive pass game coordinator Jonathan Cooley says Horn is playing with a “fantastic mindset” as a new NFL season inches closer:
"I think he's been the clearest mentally this season that he's been. He seems free. He seems excited to perform and he's focused on getting better each day. That's all you can (ask) from a great player. He comes to work with urgency and he tries to get better at something. He's been in a fantastic mindset.”
🔼 All You Want. Veteran quarterback Derek Carr recognizes what a special talent the Saints have in Spencer Rattler. Carr recently joined the Green Light Podcast to talk about the upcoming season for the Saints, and discussed what Rattler and quarterback Jake Haener have brought to the field so far:
“They are great people, great teammates, and great leaders, so I’m excited for their future. They’re going to be good players,” Carr said. On Rattler, the veteran QB added: “(Spencer’s) asking a lot of questions. As a veteran, that is all you want. He has so much respect for what I’ve done and the things I have been able to do.”
