Follow Freebie. We’re ringing in the last Friday in July with one of our favorite episodes of The Follow! Enjoy this weekend’s Friday Freebie and go behind the scenes during South Carolina’s historic win over Texas A&M.

Coming off the bye week, the Gamecocks looked for their fourth consecutive victory, with the chance for a second signature win in as many games. To do it, they had to take down a Texas A&M team they had never beaten. It was SEC football under the lights in Williams-Brice at its best, and from the opening kickoff, the Gamecocks made a statement.

🔼 A Quarterback Duel. Week 1 is coming and two quarterbacks with great respect for each other will take to the gridiron in the Battle of the Carolinas to kick the college football season off with a bang. UNC quarterback Drake Maye said this of Spencer Rattler yesterday:

“He’s a great football player. He’s had to prove himself and he throws it around — he’s got as much talent in the world as you think of as a quarterback. So I think he’ll be geared up and I know he’s going to have a great season. … (I’m) getting ready to have a good quarterback duel.”

🔼 Tell A Story. Allisha Gray is the star of the inaugural episode of a new series from the Atlanta Dream that showcases the stories their players want to tell. Don’t miss this episode featuring one of our favorite former Gamecocks.

🔼 Are You Ready? The preseason practice schedule is here and that means football is right around the corner! The Gamecocks are set to report to preseason camp on August 3 with the team’s first practice slated for August 4. Check out the full schedule.

🔼 Drawing Comparisons. When asked who freshman Nyckoles Harbor reminds him of, South Carolina wide receiver coach Justin Stepp was ready with an answer: Martavis Bryant.

“Martavis was a big kid and ran really well,” Stepp said. “But Nyck Harbor has another gear — and we haven’t had anybody here that has had that gear. He is going to be a weapon. He is a great kid who works hard, smart, and is up there all the time and getting in extra work.”

🔼 Walks Around Different. Who had the best offseason in the South Carolina receiver room? According to Justin Stepp, it’s Xavier Legette.

“It’s been cool to see the old guys bring the young guys in and get ‘em going. The leadership in that room with Xavier, AB, Juice has been a lot of fun to watch. I’m excited to see what Legette does. He’s had the best offseason of anybody in that room, I think. He works really hard.”

🤔 GAMECOCK TRIVIA

Countdown: 36. 36 marks the second-lowest number of yards allowed in a single game in Gamecock history. South Carolina did that in 1987 against NC State, holding the Wolfpack to 49 yards through the air and an eye-popping negative 13 yards on the ground.

Do you know the lowest number of yards allowed in a single game in South Carolina history?

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: 8

The lowest number of yards the Gamecocks ever allowed in a game was eight (yes, eight!) against Clemson in 1943. The Tigers didn’t tally a single passing yard that day.

Have a good Friday, y’all.
