🔺 Make A Splash. Former Gamecock swimmer Tomas Peribonio is swimming for Ecuador at his second Olympic Games. He will compete in the 200 IM tomorrow. Because of his time at South Carolina, he has been seeing familiar faces from SECs and NCAAs at the Olympics. Read more about his Olympic experience and his time as a Gamecock.

“I probably owe most of my career to South Carolina and my coaches there. When I got to South Carolina, I was not that great of a swimmer, to be honest. I was ranked eighth in the state of Georgia coming out of my class, and then I ended up moving up the ranks nationally, not just in my state. South Carolina was where I had my greatest developmental phase. I had a really good four years there, and I couldn’t have asked for anything better.”

🔺 Debo’s Defense. Linebacker Debo Williams has been named to the 2024 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List! The trophy goes to the National Defensive Player of the Year. Williams was third in the SEC with 113 tackles last season. He was the 2023 Joe Morrison MVP for the defense and was named a Rex Enright team captain.

🔺 Here To Assist. The women’s golf team has added Yoshio Yamamoto as an assistant coach! He has spent the last three seasons as the men’s assistant coach at Coastal Carolina. Before coaching, he picked up 18 professional wins.

🔺 Locked In. The volleyball staff and roster are final and ready for fall! Head coach Tom Mendoza enters year seven with two coaching changes — Ethan Pheister as Associate Head Coach and Jimmy Kim as the team’s Technical Coordinator. There are five new student-athletes on the roster — Jolie Cranford, Maggie Elliott, Victoria Harris, Sarah Jordan, and Anna Wilson. The season will get started on August 30.
