🔺 Golden Girl. Team USA and former Gamecock A’ja Wilson won the USA’s eighth-consecutive Olympic gold medal. The United States defeated France in the championship game, 67-66. The former Gamecock led Team USA in points, rebounds, blocks, and steals for the tournament. Her performance earned her Tournament MVP with 18.7 points per game, 10.2 rebounds per game, and 2.7 blocks per game.

🔺 Watch Out. Gamecock football’s Vershon Lee has been named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List. The trophy goes to the most outstanding center in NCAA DI college football. Lee returns for his fifth season on the offensive line and was last year’s starting center.

🔺 Back For More. Former South Carolina women’s soccer player Taylor Leach has joined the staff as an assistant coach! She played for the Gamecocks from 2010-2014. After her college career, she played in the NWSL for Utah Royals FC and Kansas City Current.

“Being offered the opportunity to return to USC as part of the very same program that has given me so much as a player, student and person was an absolute no-brainer. Shelley and Jamie have been such an integral part of both my collegiate and professional career, and so now to be able to learn from them in the coaching role is a true blessing. The culture they have created within the program is not only a testament to them as coaches, but more importantly, as people as it still stands true ten years later.”
