The Story: A Renewed Purpose. A longer-than-hoped offseason for South Carolina is coming to an end, with every Gamecock in the building itching to put the pads back on. While plenty of new faces headline a revamped staff and new-look offense, there's a familiar name rejoining the coaching staff, and a whole lot of veterans returning on defense. Don't let the relatively quiet offseason fool you-- as Shane Beamer rolls into year four, the Gamecocks are determined to show a renewed sense of energy, pride, and purpose this fall.

🔺 Making The List. No, no, we’re not talking about Santa, it’s only August.

This time, it was our own Tonka Hemingway making the list as the Gamecock standout was named to the 30th Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List on Monday.

The Bednarik Award is presented annually to the outstanding defensive player in college football.

Hemingway, a 6-3, 288-pounder from Conway, S.C., is taking advantage of a fifth year of eligibility due to COVID-19. He has appeared in all 48 games over the last four seasons with 17 starts. He owns 13.5 career tackles for loss with 5.5 sacks, 10 pass breakups, 13 quarterback hurries and four fumble recoveries.

🔺 Comeback Kid. Not sure if Hallie Meadows is a Kelly Clarkson fan, but her song Stronger, may be part of the soundtrack for Meadows’ career at South Carolina.

Meadows has endured multiple knee surgeries throughout her time and perservered through it all.

Now, she’s back for one more run with the Gamecocks.
