Pass Pro. When you think of running backs, you think of the ground game, of using your legs to gain yards and find the back of the endzone. But South Carolina running backs coach Montario Hardesty says there’s another element to being a great running back that might be the most critical: pass protection. The Gamecocks+ film room is open again; come on in and see how Coach Hardesty teaches pass protection to his squad.

🔼 Pencil It In. FAMS, the Gamecock women’s hoops schedule is starting to take shape as Coach Dawn Staley announced dates for two of South Carolina’s biggest match-ups of the season. South Carolina will welcome Maryland to Colonial Life Arena on November 12 and host UConn on February 11.
🔼 Get Freaky. Bruce Feldman’s College Football Freaks List is an annual tradition ahead of a brand-new season, and for the first time, a true freshman tops the list — none other than our very own Nyck Harbor! The list recognizes athletes whose innate talent and ability are beyond the realm of what most people can do.
On Harbor, Feldman wrote:
“Earlier this month, I asked one of his coaches at South Carolina, Jody Wright, who has coached in the NFL and with Alabama — where he worked with both Julio Jones and Derrick Henry — how he compares. “I would say a taller Julio with a Derrick Henry-type build is a great comparison,” Wright says. “He has the potential to develop into a mismatch nightmare with his size and speed.” Harbor is much taller and heavier than both former Alabama stars, and yet his 100 time in high school was almost a full second faster than both of theirs.”
🔼 Keep Watch. Women’s soccer season is just a day away, and six Gamecocks earned a mention on the SEC Preseason Watch List. Camryn Dixon, Heather Hinz, Cat Barry, Brianna Behm, Gracie Falla, and Shae O’Rourke round out the Gamecocks on the list.
🔼 Going Long. Christian Walker’s tear through the MLB continues. The former Gamecock launched a homer and knocked in three runs on Monday night, giving him 25 home runs and 76 RBI on the season heading into last night’s slate.
🔼 Vroom, Vroom. South Carolina Athletics announced a brand-new partnership with NASCAR and LEARFIELD this week. More details here.
🔼 Through The Air. We’ve got another preseason watch list update! Spencer Rattler was one of just 33 quarterbacks named to the Manning Award Watch List this week. The Manning Award is given annually after bowl season and is the only quarterback award that considers bowl game performance.
Meanwhile, two Gamecocks cracked ESPN’s preseason list of its top 100 players heading into the 2023 season. WR Juice Wells, the 12th highest-ranked WR on the list, landed at No. 91 overall, while the guy who gets him the ball checked in two spots later at No. 93.
🤔 GAMECOCK TRIVIA
