Cock-A-Doodle Brew 8/28: How to win
Today: It's Game Week!
:
Good morning, and happy Game Week! We’ve made it through the offseason and Gamecock football is officially back this weekend. 🤙
And in case you missed this chills-worthy moment from the practice field last week as King-Demenian Ford earned a scholarship, we’re bringing it to you again.
What else is stirred into today’s Brew? ⤵️

Lists Don’t Matter. Spencer Rattler is poised to post one heck of a year for the Garnet & Black. QB1 joins the latest episode of the Gamecock Talk podcast to talk about how he spent the offseason, why preseason lists don’t matter, and what he’s most looking forward to about a brand-new season.

🔼 How To Win. Coach Beamer knows that to slow down North Carolina, the Gamecocks will need to slow down Tar Heels’ QB Drake Maye, but there’s another area South Carolina is honed in on as a key to victory in Week 1: stopping UNC’s running attack.
“They’ve got really good running backs,” Coach Beamer said of the Tar Heels. “And we’ve got to corral those guys, also. In first games, there’s just so many unknowns, because it’s the first time doing it for real. And there’s a lot of new players on both teams. So I think the biggest thing is the team that handles the environment best and just plays smart, clean football, as well, is going to have a heck of a chance to win this game at the end.”
🔼 Three In A Row. Gamecock women’s soccer stayed hot early with another win to get to 3-0-1 on the season after knocking off UMass-Lowell, 2-0, in New England on Sunday afternoon. Reagan Schubach and Lily Render both found the back of the net for the Gamecocks, who return to the pitch at home later this week against Elon.
🔼 All Family. Joining a new team can be tough, but for transfer tight end Trey Knox, his new South Carolina teammates made it a lot easier.
“As a freshman, you’re worried about the new people that you meet. Now, me being an older guy and having to start this thing over, basically, so that was probably the hardest thing. But my teammates made it easy, and the transition has been so smooth, so I give credit to my whole team. They made me feel welcome, made me feel part of the family since day one, so I’m just very excited and glad to be here,” Knox said.
🔼 Only The Beginning. Laeticia Amihere is in the second half of her rookie season in the pros, and she sat down with WNBA.com’s Jameelah Johnson to break down what she’s learned so far, what’s next, and how South Carolina helped shape her journey into the next phase of her life.
